Shive‑Hattery is a premier architecture and engineering consulting firm headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The firm has 16 offices across the US and has maintained a reputation for excellence since 1895. The West Des Moines office is looking for a licensed Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience.

Design projects as a structural engineer for industrial, commercial, and education projects of various sizes, with a main focus on industrial projects. Collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians, coordinate within multidisciplinary teams, and serve mainly long‑standing industrial clients locally and nationally.

Lead the structural design portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.

Manage structural scope, schedule, and budget; mentor and teach other team members; oversee projects from schematic through construction documents for single‑discipline and multi‑discipline projects; represent the company with clients and contractors; handle multiple projects simultaneously; manage shop drawing reviews and field data collection.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program
• 5 to 10 years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects
• Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or eligibility for immediate licensure in Iowa
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office
• Structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry; wood design is a plus
• Experience and willingness to provide direction to young engineers and designers, and collaborate with other disciplines
• Must be able to drive and have access to an automobile, climb ladders and work off elevated platforms and open grating, and wear required personal protective equipment
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, planning, organizing, and prioritizing work
• Attention to detail and strong oral and written communication skills; comfortable presenting design solutions to owners

• Experience using 3D software such as Navisworks/Recap and other structural engineering design software
