Job DescriptionThe Research Scientist will identify and develop new technology platforms to advance innovative strategies and provide critical expertise in various new and renewable polymers. The successful candidate will help translate business strategy to technical needs, identify and assess new ideas, and bring new chemistry from idea to commercial success.
Responsibilities- Develop new technology to enable pressure sensitive adhesive, films or coatings development, including utilizing green and biodegradable polymer technologies.
- Act as technical expert/mentor for the organization, including within R&D and across the business.
- Lead project teams doing technical platform research driven by business needs. Develop and implement comprehensive technical project plans. Determine resources, actions, and timelines for projects.
- Make recommendations and progress reports to R&D and business leadership.
- Conduct hands-on experiments and associated polymer/adhesive characterizations.
- Design and/or synthesize pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) or coatings
- Actively participate in process safety management and employee safety programs and help to drive continuous improvement.
- BS or MS with 8+ years of relevant experience or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience in the field of Chemistry or Polymer Science
- Extensive experience with polymer chemistry. Free radical polymerization methodology a plus.
- Proficiency in green polymer science, biodegradation, plastics recycling and compositiblity.
- Synthesis and formulation experience in technologies such as polyesters, urethanes, silicones, epoxies, hotmelt glues, and radiation curing.
- Experience with laboratory safety and chemical hazards.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 10-20% of time.
