Position Description

The Environmental Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supports the Des Moines, IA Oilseeds Complex. Working in both an office and industrial facility environment, the role supports plant operations teams in improving and maintaining the site’s environmental compliance programs and the Environmental Management System (EMS). The Manager works closely with the EHS CoE for functional alignment, clarity, and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor site activities and implement actions to ensure compliance with all ADM, federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Develop and provide training for employees and contractors related to environmental programs.
  • Prepare required reports and maintain all necessary records/documentation related to environmental programs.
  • Participate in and lead, where appropriate, cross-functional initiatives to drive sustained, continuous improvements to achieve Annual Objectives ("Big Rocks").
  • Lead internal and external environmental audits and agency visits and prioritize, assign, and track audit findings.
  • Prepare appropriate permit applications and regulatory applicability analyses for air, land, water, and other environmental regulations.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies in writing, by phone, or in person to resolve permit compliance issues.
  • Travel occasionally for meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain and manage the site’s EMS, including policies, procedures, incident investigations, root cause analyses, risk reduction efforts, inspections, audits, and training.
Position Requirements
  • BS/BA degree in Engineering, Environmental Management/Engineering or related program.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role in a continuous manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and management systems, including air and water regulations and permitting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence others at all levels.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to organize and lead meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team-based, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours outside normal day-shift hours to support plant operations.
  • Willingness to be a point of contact for after-hour emergencies when required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work in a variety of conditions including office, indoors/outdoors, hot/cold/inclement weather, and perform physical demands such as walking, standing, kneeling, sitting, working at heights, climbing stairs or ladders, confined spaces, and wearing a respirator when required.

Base pay range: $70,400.00 - $. Salaried Incentive Plan may include an annual bonus.
