Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Location: Austin, TX | Chicago, IL | Denver, CO | Des Moines, IA | Minneapolis, MN

We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer with 4+ years direct experience in developing and leading process instrumentation and control systems tasks for municipal water/wastewater management systems, power plants, industrial automation systems, microgrid control systems, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, universities, campuses, and industrial facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead process instrumentation and control systems tasks for various industrial applications.
  • Evaluate existing systems and participate in the design of plant control and instrumentation systems.
  • Design plant control systems, including Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Work with P&IDs, I/O lists, instrument data sheets, cable schedules, procurement specifications, logic and SAMA diagrams; conduct bid evaluation and construction support.
  • Collaborate with site engineering group during installation and commissioning of designed control systems.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data from reports, drawings, and tests to support project planning and design development.
  • Prepare and review design computations, quantity estimates, project documentation, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Direct designers and technicians in converting engineering designs into working drawings, ensuring technical accuracy.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and make recommendations based on technical analysis, cost‑effectiveness, and project requirements.
  • Participate in client communications, attend onsite and offsite meetings to discuss project specifics, technical requirements, and deliverable status.
  • Assist in preparation of detailed project budgets aligned with scope.
  • Respond to client inquiries and requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation, including calculations, correspondence, meeting minutes, and technical memoranda.
  • Maintain adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards as outlined in the quality manual.
Qualifications
  • Education & Licensure: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required; BSEE preferred.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam taken and passed.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not required; must be able to attain PE license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with engineering design, analysis, and construction administration.
  • Experience with project coordination and multi‑disciplinary team collaboration.
