Electrical Engineering Intern
IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in Urbandale, Iowa to work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. Over 10-12 weeks, you will gain hands-on experience supporting real project work alongside experienced professionals.
In this role, you will help the team work within project budgets, collaborate with cross-functional disciplines, and support project progress through documentation and periodic job site observations. You will contribute to building projects with strong higher-education, lab, campus, and health-science coordination while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP
2050 and AIA
2030.

• Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings
• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards
• Support project work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
• Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
• Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files
• Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers
• Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress
• Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
What You'll BringRequired Education
• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Skills/Abilities
• Strong interest in design consulting
• Previous exposure to CAD and/or Building Information Model software
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
About the Team• Work is heavily higher-education focused, with recurring mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, and energy-modeling scope on classrooms, science buildings, student housing, and health-science projects. That pattern suggests a strong full-service MEP team with especially solid experience in lab, campus, and complex student-facility coordination.
