DescriptionGENERAL
SUMMARY:
Supervises and directs the officers assigned to his/her shift and assists in conducting surveillance so as to provide a safe and secure environment within the buildings of the hospital and in the parking lots.

HIPAA Security ComplianceSecurity Access:
High “Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the Mercy Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role.”
- Oversees all security officers' activities on assigned shift, make shift and duty assignments.
- Assists Director on hospital related investigations.
- Assists Director and Safety Office with establishing departmental goals, as well as determining manner in which to best achieve goals.
- Performs daily, weekly, monthly and annual paperwork duties, especially with regard to personnel matters of direct subordinates.
- Performs day-to-day security officer functions.
- Patrols the hospital, hospital grounds and parking lots so as to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Initiates investigations into incidents or activities of criminal nature and submits appropriate information to law enforcement agencies as directed.
- Assumes responsibility for proper inventory, pickup, transport and storage of patient valuables and after hour patient deposits.
- Maintains storage and records of lost, found and stolen property of visitors, patients and employees.
- Controls loud or disorderly patients or visitors and summons police to assist if necessary.
- Provides accurate directions, information, and, if necessary, escort to the public.
- Provides traffic control, as needed.
- Operate required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
- Performs simple maintenance on parking lot equipment (i.e., clears personnel ticket dispensers, replaces broken gate arms).
- Assists with the movement of patients as requested by nursing staff.
- Keeps Director advised of all personnel matters of appointed subordinates.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED
- High school degree or GED required.
- Associates degree preferred.
- 2-3 years security supervisory experience or related experience.
- Valid Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

Working with whole hand to drive vehicle, to load/unload supplies, materials into and from vehicle. - Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction to load/unload and deliver materials/supplies into and from vehicle. - OCCASIONAL Repetitive motions:
Substantial motions of the wrists, hands and fingers while typing and filing. - Lifting:
In excess of 100 pounds while lifting patients/baggage/valuables.
