Risk Manager/Analyst, Mortgage Loan Originator / Advisor
The Mortgage Underwriter plays a key role in the mortgage lending operations by analyzing loan applications to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and secondary market requirements. Candidates must have experience underwriting Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans. Reporting to the Sr. Underwriter, this role focuses on evaluating borrower eligibility, assessing risk, and collaborating with internal partners to deliver timely and member-focused lending decisions.
This is fully on-site, Monday through Friday, promoting collaboration with mortgage operations
What You’ll Be Responsible For:- Loan Review & Analysis: Review and analyze loan applications and supporting documentation to determine borrower eligibility. Verify income, assets, employment, and credit history in accordance with guidelines and regulations. Assess risk factors to support informed underwriting decisions.
- Property & Project Evaluation: Evaluate property appraisals to ensure compliance with secondary market requirements. Review condominium project documentation to very eligibility with investor guidelines.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed loan records in compliance with credit union policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards. Ensure underwriting practices align with internal controls and secondary market guidelines.
- Member & Partner Service: Partner with Sr. Underwriter to review and resolve complex loan scenarios. Work closely with loan officers and internal teams to ensure accurate, timely loan processing. Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries from loan officers. Support a positive member experience by ensuring underwriting decisions are timely, professional, and clear.
- 2-3 years of mortgage underwriting experience with Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans.
- Familiarity with FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) or VA LAPP is a bonus but not required
- Comfortable working fully onsite in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
