What You'll Do
We’re looking for an AVP & Actuary to join our Benefits & Protection team! In this role you'll manage the actuarial and product development functions, provide actuarial advice on unusual, complex, and financially significant insurance and other financial products. You’ll also serve as an advisor to business unit(s) on financial risk and investment requirements. This person will develop and oversee product strategy, product pricing, and product design, ensure compliance with applicable state, federal, and country regulations and apply professional standards of the American Academy and the Society of Actuaries in their work activities.
You’llAlso Have The Opportunity To:
- Direct a business unit's actuarial function that performs pricing, financial reporting/analysis, design and analysis of insurance products and other financial products in the domestic and international markets. Serve as the actuarial compliance officer for the business.
- Serve as a head of product line while aligning the objectives of product development and pricing strategies to meet the financial needs and revenue goals of the business.
- Provide resource planning for current and future needs of the actuarial and product functions. Develop professional staff through training, management of work activities, and performance reviews.
- Provide input to strategic planning and interact with business units and corporate management regarding impact on business.
- Represent the company through serving on professional or industry committees, dealing with vendors or making customer presentations.
- Perform other job‑related duties or special projects as required.
- College graduate or equivalent, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), and a member in good standing of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA) required; 15 years of experience in the actuarial field is preferred; actuarial and product development experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required.
- In‑depth knowledge of area of actuarial specialty and broad knowledge of other insurance areas including product development, product pricing and risk.
- Must maintain continuing education requirements as specified by the AAA.
- Strong communication skills and management skills are required.
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
SalaryRange (Non‑Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$211000 - $285000 / year
Time Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Location & Work EnvironmentRole is based out of our corporate headquarters in Des Moines, IA and offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending at least three in‑office days during a typical workweek.
