Payroll Specialist

We're looking for a Union Payroll Specialist to join our team in the Des Moines area. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in getting the details right. What You'll Do

Own the Payroll Process

+ Process weekly payroll for union field employees (ironworkers, operators, laborers)

+ Accurately calculate wages, overtime, double time, and contract-specific pay rules

+ Review timecards and job coding to ensure precision and compliance

Be the Union & Compliance Expert

+ Interpret and apply multiple collective bargaining agreements (CBAs)

+ Manage union deductions, including dues, benefits, and pension contributions

+ Ensure compliance with prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements

+ Prepare and submit reports to union benefit funds

Drive Accuracy & Accountability

+ Reconcile payroll, union reports, and general ledger entries

+ Support audits and ensure all reporting is timely and accurate

+ Serve as a trusted resource for payroll questions from employees and management

+ Quickly resolve discrepancies and ensure employees are paid correctly and on time

Requirements

What You Bring

Must-Have Experience

+ 3+ years of union payroll experience (construction or related industry preferred)

+ Strong knowledge of:

+ Multi-state payroll processing

+

Experience with payroll systems

+ Advanced Excel skills

Nice to Have

+ Background in heavy construction

+ Experience working with multiple union locals

+ Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
