Role Overview
As a Technical Director in Property & Casualty Actuarial within Nationwide’s Finance team, you will act as an actuarial subject‑matter expert, lead a small team, and partner with actuarial, finance, and technology teams to modernize planning and forecasting systems.
Note:
This role does not qualify for employer‑sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program. Applicants working remotely may be considered.
- Act as an actuarial subject‑matter expert on forecasting methodologies, assumptions, and insurance business context.
- Apply expertise to planning and forecasting workflows, ensuring outputs are reasonable, actionable, and aligned with business needs.
- Design and validate calculation logic, support testing, and implement system enhancements.
- Translate business needs into effective solutions across teams.
- Strengthen the reliability, usability, and ongoing evolution of planning and forecasting tools and reporting.
- Lead a small team of associates, driving collaboration and skill development.
- Develop a strategic vision for the team to ensure efficient, consistent, and integrated data and analysis.
- Advise on data‑mining techniques, modeling, and leveraging software to support strategic objectives.
- Represent the company with regulators, auditors, and external vendors as appropriate.
- Oversee multiple work plans, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of product.
- Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a similar field; postgraduate degree preferred.
- Generally nine years of related experience in actuarial or statistical support roles.
- Expert knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods, models, software, and databases.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office, analytical software, and programming languages.
- Strong organizational agility, strategic thinking, delegation, and business perspective.
- Proven leadership in driving collaboration, process improvement, and training development.
The position is intended for Columbus, OH;
Scottsdale, AZ; or Des Moines, IA. Remote candidates with critical industry skills and relevant experience may also be considered.
