Utilities Regulation Inspector - Pipeline About Us

What

You’ll Do
  • Inspect physical facilities, records, programs, construction projects, and operations of public and private gas utilities.
  • Evaluate compliance with state and federal rules, regulations, and safety standards during on-site inspections.
  • Assist utilities in understanding and applying codes and standards while identifying unsafe installations or practices.
  • Investigate incidents and failures involving natural gas facilities to determine causes and recommend corrective measures.
  • Review and respond to safety or service complaints by conducting investigations, analyzing records, and interviewing stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed technical reports documenting inspections, findings, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent regulatory oversight.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas utility practices, operations, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with technical engineering principles related to pipeline system operations.
  • Skill in applying codes and standards to real-world installations and operations.
  • The ability to travel throughout Iowa (and occasionally out of state) for inspections and investigations.
  • The ability to successfully complete the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s training and qualification program.
  • A collaborative approach, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
