JOB SUMMARYPerforms Ultrasound exams including OB/Gyn, abdominal, breast and small parts on a scheduled or emergent basis. Assists Radiologist as requested when needed. Ages of patients served range in age from newborn to geriatric.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSBehaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and guiding behaviors of Trinity Health Assists physician(s) and/or radiologist(s) in specialized procedures.
Follows sterile procedure and can assist in monitoring HR/BP during these procedures if necessary.
Utilizes critical thinking in daily and emergent assessment of proper protocols. Assesses each patient for proper prep/scanning procedure for each ordered exam. Follows protocols that have been set in place for the Ultrasound Department. Coordinates work with other sonographers. Completes documentation accurately and thoroughly. Follows the ARDMS rules and regulations. Observes safety precautions when handling patients, while performing examinations and while patients are in direct contact.
Demonstrates safety with chemicals when handling/disinfecting any necessary equipment. Performs visual inspection daily of all equipment to ensure its safety/cleanliness. Operates 2D, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound unit with appropriate transducers utilized to perform and adequately ascertain the location of specific organs, with demonstration on film with recordings of appropriate calculations for measurements. Demonstrates basic patient care skills. Maintains unit specific competencies and participates in review of the high-risk/ low-frequency competencies.
Maintains knowledge of equipment and continuously learns new technology and can trouble shoot equipment, report malfunctioning equipment and ensure its repair and return to service. Provides professional leadership in the delivery of patient care. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Healthy Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standard of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behaviors.
Serves as a consultant, resource person, and role model representing respiratory care in the health system committees or work groups as needed.
Must be board eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiology Technologist. Must be certified as a RDMS or ARRT in ABD, OB/GYN, Breast and RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) within a time frame determined by the hiring manager and in accordance with the American College of Radiology. Completion of associate degree in area of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Must be BLS certified upon hire. Working weekend, holiday, and rotating shifts as well as on-call is required. Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
