Description GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Schedules procedures for Perioperative Services, including the operating rooms, Delivery Room and other anesthesia sites. Coordinates staff and technical resources for several procedural entities. Distributes schedule.

High “Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the Mercy Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role.”
- Schedules procedures for Perioperative Services and other anesthesia sites, obtaining all pertinent information from person scheduling.
- Verifies next day's schedule with surgeon's offices; rearranges schedule for optimum use of staff, equipment, rooms, etc.
- Distributes surgery schedule to appropriate units/persons.
- Communicates appropriately with physicians, offices, staff and other hospital departments.
- Professionally responds quickly to requests and maintains control of a conversation.
- Communicates with managers or designated staff regarding equipment conflicts, special needs, etc.
- Does computer-related projects as requested.
- Supports and participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects.
- Attends department meetings and huddles.
Skills And Abilities
Required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
- Computer experience and a knowledge of medical terminology preferred. One-year experience in health care field using medical terminology and/or insurance codes preferred.
- Demonstrated positive communication skills.
- Ability to speak, read and write English language.

- Ability to read and prepare written and electronic documentation.
- Work utilizes computer terminal.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors, and perform job functions satisfactorily despite the stress of a hospital work environment.

- Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area.

- Reports to Supervisor-Surgical Scheduling/Systems.
