This role serves as the primary administrator for the DIAL AWS Gov Cloud environment, overseeing essential platforms such as AMANDA, File Cloud, and the DIAL Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). In addition to managing these cloud-based systems, the position is responsible for File Cloud administration, delivering comprehensive technical support to all File Cloud users. By maintaining these critical environments, they help ensure reliable operations and seamless user experiences across the organization.
The Iowa Department of Management (DOM) is seeking an Infrastructure Technical Specialist (ITS) with expertise in AWS, AWS VDI, and File Cloud. This role is responsible for cloud infrastructure management, monitoring, security and compliance, collaboration and support, and deployment.
Responsibilities- Manage the DIAL AWS Gov Cloud environment and associated platforms (AMANDA, File Cloud, and DIAL VDI) to ensure reliable operations and user access.
- Serve as File Cloud administrator, handling staff onboarding, troubleshooting issues, and providing technical support to users.
- Manage AWS infrastructure for VDI, including deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Support on-call patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting during nightly and weekend windows.
- Ensure security, monitoring, and compliance across cloud infrastructure and File Cloud environments.
- Collaborate with multiple teams; provide clear status updates and adhere to quality standards.
- Proactively learn new systems, processes, and aspects of business functionality to support ongoing adoption and improvements.
- Broad experience with cloud adoption, including application readiness assessment, prototyping of new environments, server builds, and data migration.
- Experience as an enterprise systems administrator in a client or server environment, including deployment automation tools.
- Experience in a customer-facing capacity, support, or consulting role.
- Experience with cloud service provider offerings like Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with design and implementation of distributed systems architecture on private or public cloud infrastructure.
- Experience troubleshooting very complex distributed environments pertaining to connectivity, application performance, and monitoring tools.
- Experience working with cloud platforms.
- Extensive knowledge of systems including hardware, software, networking, and storage.
- High-level strategic planning and advisory capabilities to enable successful cloud adoption or migration.
- Performance tuning of cloud environments.
- Proficiency in Windows, Linux, and CLI with 1-2 years of experience in VM infrastructure.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Technical knowledge of infrastructure components such as network, storage, Linux/Windows, and applications (Java, .Net) with IT security.
