Platform Engineer

Job Description

As a Platform Engineer, you will lead technical design efforts in collaboration with Solution Architects for highly integrated and complex application platforms. Your focus will be on optimizing security, information and system performance/availability, ensuring solutions adhere to architecture standards, and providing subject‑matter expertise to development and project teams. You will work cross‑functionally with business stakeholders and Solution Architects in technical planning and system delivery, consult on business process improvements, guide IT policies and procedures, and research emerging technologies to add value to the organization.

Required Qualifications
- Must have:

• Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience
• Minimum 7 years of experience, including any combination of:
  • Development
    
    Experience:
    
    Angular 2 (or newer), NodeJS (or newer), Type Script, C#, .NET, Java, SQL
  • Providing innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, operations.
  • Proven ability to adapt to major changes in work tasks or environment.
  • Informal leadership experience typically gained through leading projects.
  • Experience coaching/mentoring others, providing guidance and feedback.
  • Experience designing technical architecture and staying current with emerging technologies.
  • Consulting with stakeholders to understand needs and provide advice and counsel.
  • Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills, including root‑cause analysis and solution evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to present to diverse audiences.

• Experience partnering with global staffing vendors to deliver projects

What you will do:

• Lead technical designs for integrated, complex application platforms to optimize security, integration, performance, and availability, ensuring adherence to architecture standards and service level agreements.
• Consult with Solution Architects and project teams to create and document design deliverables, collaborating with Lead Architects to implement effective technology solutions and improve processes.
• Oversee and lead planning, development, and estimation of technical solutions, collaborating with other technical teams as needed.
• Collaborate with Lead Architect, business systems analysts, and stakeholders to provide insight on process improvements.
• Consult with business stakeholders on technical planning to align architectures with business expectations.
• Review and provide technical guidance on design efforts, including vendor evaluation, integration, implementation, and administration.
• Adhere to and influence Wellmark’s architecture governance and technical standards, providing design specifications for approvals.
• Provide training and mentorship on technical design and solution implementation, including quality assurance.
• Build strong business relationships to ensure technical designs align with business needs and deliver exceptional customer service.
• Develop and apply industry best practices in technology, design, and methodology; research and recommend emerging technologies, techniques, and tools.
• Other duties as assigned.
