Interpreter - Refugee Community Services - Dari & Pashto

Overview

LSI seeks part-time occasional Dari/Pashto Interpreter for Refugee Community Services in the Des Moines area.

• Provide direct interpretation and translation services between users of different languages.
• Interpret conversations in-person and translate documents and forms.
• Communicate effectively with clients, community partners, volunteers, and staff to ensure high-quality service to clients.
• Uphold interpretation ethics and guidelines.
• Length of position assignment may depend on the changing language needs of the program.
• Position will include frequent on-call shifts with occasional shifts scheduled on a regular basis; hours and shifts will vary.

• High school diploma/equivalent and 1 year of experience interpreting in the refugee community; qualified applicants will have linguistic skills to meet the needs of populations served.
• Fluent in English, Dari and Pashto.
• Daytime availability preferred; ability to provide in-person interpretation in the Des Moines area required. Preferred Dari and Pashto fluency, but just one is acceptable.
• Valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record, and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
