This position is responsible for independently managing backhaul sourcing and power-only purchased transportation activities within dedicated operations. This role collaborates with carriers, brokers, customers, and internal teams to support strategic initiatives and continuous improvement across dedicated operations.
Responsibilities- Operations Execution and Support – Independently manage daily backhaul sourcing and power-only purchased transportation activities, making operational decisions that impact utilization, cost, and service performance. Responsible for managing load tendering, scheduling, tracking, and communication with a high level of accuracy and urgency. Evaluate available capacity and select appropriate carriers and contracted brokerage companies based on performance, cost, service requirements, and risk factors.
Negotiate competitive rates and terms to determine appropriate pricing approaches for assigned lanes, regions, or operations in alignment with established pricing strategies. Resolve issues proactively and develop corrective action plans to maintain service. Analyze opportunities to reduce empty miles and improve asset utilization. - Data Analysis, Performance Monitoring & Reporting – Monitor, interpret, and report on key performance indicators related to cost, service reliability, utilization, and backhaul efficiency to meet profitability goals while meeting service expectations. Identify trends or issues impacting performance to provide recommendations for improvement. Support pricing initiatives for new business by researching market trends and analyzing data.
- Communication – Serve as the operational primary point of contact for carriers, brokerage contacts, and dedicated operations teams. Lead communication and decision-making during service failures, delays, or disruptions, ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution. Compliance and Documentation – Ensure all operational processes comply with regulatory requirements, including those set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and company policies and regulations.
Maintain accurate and complete load documentation rate details, and compliance records. Contribute to the development, revision, and auditing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality across operations. - Process Improvement – Participate or lead projects aimed at improving workflow efficiency, reducing cost, and enhancing service quality. Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to systems, tools, or procedures.
