What You’ll Do
  • Lead the design, execution, and continual improvement of colleague health and safety initiatives across Mercy One.
  • Identify emerging safety risks and implement proactive prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee systemwide colleague safety operations, including program administration, compliance, investigations, and reporting.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to ministry and facility leaders, supporting best practices and performance improvements.
  • Standardize employee health processes, including new colleague onboarding and annual health requirements.
  • Conduct and oversee high-quality event investigations such as RCAs, ACAs, and learning-from-defect reviews.
  • Analyze data and trends to develop evidence-based risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Partner with Trinity Health leaders to support the Colleague Engagement & Safety Survey and improvement action plans.
  • Act as the primary liaison to Trinity Health Insurance and Risk Management Services for potential and actual claims.
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation management and occupational/environmental safety operations.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives to reduce injuries and advance Mercy One’s culture of safety.
  • Educate leaders, physicians, and colleagues on health and safety practices, policies, and shared learning.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state/federal regulations, Joint Commission, CMS, and other accrediting agencies.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Risk Management teams on investigations and claims-related matters.
  • Maintain required documentation with confidentiality and regulatory accuracy.
  • Model professionalism and support organizational integrity in all aspects of work.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) required; CHSP or similar certification preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in colleague safety, risk management, workers’ compensation, or occupational/environmental safety or 5+ years of progressive clinical leadership in complex healthcare settings.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Analytical skills with experience identifying safety risks and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Familiarity with improvement and safety tools such as FMEA, RCA, ACA, and Learning From Defects.
  • Ability to lead change, influence culture, and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and regulatory/accrediting agencies preferred.
  • Understanding of claims processes and reduction strategies desirable.
  • Ability to travel across multiple sites.
