Location: Southeastern Iowa, assigned to either the Bettendorf or Ottumwa office
Classification:
Professional Staff, Uni Serv Director
The Iowa State Education Association Council (ISEA) is seeking applicants for the position of full-time Uni Serv Director.
Service Area & Overview:
The southeastern area is made up of locals (teacher and ESP) in Southeast Iowa. The Uni Serv Director will work closely with the Statewide Organizer and Year-Round Organizers, other Uni Serv Directors and members, to advocate for students, the education profession and communities.
Job Duties:
Assist ISEA locals in matters of:
- Lead membership growth and organizing campaigns.
- Support recertification elections and issue campaigns.
- Build relationships with local unions, school districts, and community stakeholders.
- Recruit and retain members.
- Support school board candidate interviews and promotions.
- Travel regularly to local affiliates to develop leaders and strengthen union structures.
Negotiations & Member Advocacy
- Support collective bargaining efforts.
- Train and coach worksite representatives.
- Provide advice, representation, and support to members and local leaders.
Leadership Development
- Recruit and develop local and council-level leaders.
- Design and deliver trainings.
- Build leadership capacity across affiliates.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with organizing, membership campaigns, collective bargaining, labor management relations, and community organizing.
- Strong listening and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of Iowa public-sector labor laws and labor relations.
- Experience with political action and adult training.
- Ability to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Compensation
- Salary range: $77,125 – $109,900, depending on experience.
- Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement benefits, paid leave, auto allowance, and professional development funding.
