Chemical Mixing Technician

As a Chemical Mixing Technician, you will be responsible for processing raw materials and chemicals, following batch records to mix the correct chemicals to create the final product. Utilizing various machines, you will measure raw materials, take samples for lab processing, and ensure quality control. This role involves operating a crane to lift large chemical bags and requires signing off on documents to confirm the correct materials and amounts are used.

This is a physically demanding position that involves pushing materials out of bags, climbing stairs to reach the top of tanks, and using computers to monitor and control tank levels. You will also be expected to perform additional work-related duties as assigned while wearing a full uniform and respirator mask due to chemical exposure.

Responsibilities
  • Process raw materials and chemicals following batch records.
  • Operate machinery to measure and mix chemicals.
  • Take samples for laboratory quality testing.
  • Lift and move large chemical bags using a crane.
  • Sign off on documents verifying correct materials and amounts.
  • Push materials using a large mixing device.
  • Climb stairs to monitor tank levels.
  • Operate computers for machine and tank control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to read batch records and recipes.
  • Check balances to ensure correct amounts of raw materials.
  • Measure chemicals accurately.
  • Experience as a machine operator, utility technician, or production technician.
  • Strong attention to detail and reporting skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Physical strength for lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Manufacturing experience preferred (2-4 years).
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Capability to take initiative and work collaboratively with a team.

Work

Environment

This is a fully on-site position in a manufacturing facility in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work the 2nd shift from Monday to Friday, with shifts starting between 2 pm and 4 pm. The manufacturing/plant environment includes exposure to moving equipment, mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and biological hazards. Dress code includes uniforms, steel-toed boots, and hair nets, with mandatory showers after shifts.

The team environment is collaborative yet reserved, focusing on high productivity and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.75/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
