Position: COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Overview

Gender Freedom Society is a 100% volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit based virtually in the United States. We are dedicated to educating and supporting the transgender community while striving to normalize transgender existence within broader society. Through educational platforms, outreach efforts, and moderated social media, we cultivate a culture where transgender rights are respected, and gender diversity is celebrated as vital to human identity.

Everyday our team of global volunteers comes together in an effort to make this world a better place for the Trans/GNC community.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a creative, organized, and passionate Communications Specialist to join our team! In this volunteer role, you’ll play a key part in how we tell our story, both to the public and within our internal community. You’ll help shine a spotlight on the amazing work our organization does, introduce and celebrate staff, and keep our members and followers informed and engaged.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and schedule engaging posts for Linked In to highlight our initiatives, events, and impact
  • Work closely with the Social Media Manager to ensure a consistent message across platforms and avoid content overlap or double-posting
  • Create internal and external communications to welcome new staff and celebrate current team members
  • Help maintain a consistent voice and tone across platforms in alignment with our values
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and teams to promote events and programs
  • Brainstorm and implement new ways to increase community engagement on social media
  • Assist with basic graphic design (using Canva or similar tools) for posts and updates
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies to grow our reach and visibility
Qualifications
  • Strong written communication skills with a friendly, professional tone
  • Comfortable using or learning tools like Canva, Buffer/Hootsuite, Discord, or similar platforms
  • Interest in or experience with social media and community engagement
  • Collaborative spirit and self-motivated attitude
  • Passion for gender inclusivity and GFS’s mission
