At the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System Medical/Surgical Unit, Registered Nurses deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to Veterans recovering from medical and surgical conditions. The Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse provides essential inpatient care to Veterans with diverse medical and surgical needs. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and performing interventions to support recovery and prevent complications. Nurses collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, effective care and smooth transitions through the continuum of care. Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients on the Medical/Surgical Unit.
* Administer medications and perform procedures per established policies and guidelines.
* Perform ongoing assessments and provide appropriate interventions for changes in condition.
* Obtain and interpret 12-lead electrocardiograms and monitor cardiac rhythms.
* Provide intravenous drug infusions with nurse-driven titration per protocol.
* Recognize and respond effectively to emergency situations and acute crises.
* Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation in patient medical records.
* Coordinate care and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence outcomes.
* Utilize Bed Management System per protocols for patient flow and unit operations.
* May function in a Charge Nurse role and delegate tasks appropriately within scope of practice.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
Work Schedule:
7:30pm - 8:00am, rotating weekends and holidays
