Salary Range: $25.00 to $37.00 annually
As the Residency Team Lead (RN / Registered Nurse) you will provide leadership for the Patient Care Team (PCT) support staff and nursing care for patients. You will assess, plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, and support MAs, LPNs, and other members of the PCT in working efficiently to provide quality patient care. You will ensure that the PCT follows assigned workflows efficiently and within the specialized residency education model.
In this position, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to welcome patients to a safe and inclusive environment and to engage patients in holistic care. This position is a unique role that offers the opportunity to use a wide variety of skills, including educating medical residents as they learn and grow throughout the residency program.
This position works at PHC at Mercy Family Medicine Residency Clinic in Des Moines and is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week:
Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM.
Our team members are occasionally needed to cover other shifts or to work at other PHC clinics in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown. Mileage reimbursement and/or an out of town travel bonus may apply.
What You Will Do- Leads the Patient Care Team (PCT), ensuring efficient patient flow and completion of daily tasks. Assigns care team members in accordance with patient needs, along with staff capabilities and qualifications, to meet the needs of the clinic and residency education.
- Coordinates clinical support staffing schedule, including reviewing time off requests and recommending approval/denial for time off requests to the Clinic Director. Assigns care team members in accordance with patient needs, staff capabilities, and qualifications. Monitors the effectiveness of the care given by MAs, LPNs, students, and apprentices.
- Assist in finding fill-in staff and coordinating floating staff between locations as requested.
- Helps plan, facilitate, and delegate daily staff huddles when the Clinic Director is not present. May support clinical support staff meetings with content and presentation of material.
- Performs quality assurance reviews for life safety controls/tasks and duties assigned to clinical support staff.
- Triages patients in-person or on the phone according to established protocol.
- Serves as a resource to clinical support staff regarding clinical functions such as waived testing, vaccinations, standing orders, EMR Superuser, regulatory standards, and procedures. Assists clinical support staff as needed, including but not limited to, facilitating patient rooming and intake, obtaining vital signs, performing point-of-care, lab, and diagnostic testing per orders, and administering medications, immunizations, and treatments per orders to ensure efficient care team workflow.
- Participates in training, orientation, competency assessment, and education of employees. Serves as a resource person to other staff and promotes effective collaboration. Provides feedback for MAs and LPNs as requested as part of the competency or evaluation process.
- Serves as a patient advocate, resource, and point-of-contact for patients through the continuum of care.
- Performs pre-cleaning and transport of contaminated instruments per infection control policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of an accredited nursing program accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing for Registered Nurse licensure.
- A minimum of 2 years of RN experience.
Note:
LPN experience may be partially substituted for experience at leadership discretion for internal candidates. - Effective nursing skills and knowledge of nursing care regulations and practices established by the Iowa Board of Nursing with ability to apply universal precautions in patient care.
