Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse)
As a critical member of the Plasma Center team, you will ensure donor safety, monitor donor eligibility, and coordinate with medical and environmental teams to support daily plasma collection operations.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, medical history interview, physical examination, and laboratory testing.
- Manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable results.
- Conduct Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) reviews and assess donor reactions per SOPs.
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care.
- Coordinate with Center Physician and Medical Affairs for medical or technical issues and for communicating unacceptable findings to donors.
- Assist with employee health programs such as Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination and evaluate employee incidents for further evaluation by occupational health.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
- Provide center‑level support for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) guidance.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduation from a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
- Current state licensure or certification as a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Certified in CPR and AED.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Successfully complete FDA‑approved Bio Life Medical Support Specialist training.
- Minimum two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Location:
USA – Iowa – Des Moines - Hourly wage range: $33.44 – $45.98, dependent on qualifications and experience.
