Overview
UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is seeking compassionate and skilled professionals to join our Perinatal Center, providing specialized care for women experiencing high‑risk pregnancies and their unborn babies. Our multidisciplinary team delivers advanced, patient‑centered care to ensure the best outcomes for both mother and child.
Shift: Part‑Time, Days 8:00 am‑4:30 pm – 2 days per week.
- Multiple gestations (twins, triplets, or more)
- History of preterm or early deliveries
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Diabetes (pre‑existing or gestational)
- Hypertension and other cardiovascular concerns
- Heart, lung, vascular, or kidney disease
- Blood disorders
- Fetal complications and developmental concerns

- Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members about health maintenance and medical illnesses.
- Document information in the electronic chart and complete patient forms, requesting medical records to be scanned into the EHR.
- Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider; complete necessary forms or requisitions for referrals or lab testing.
- Assist the provider with patient examinations, procedures, and emergencies.
- Provide and document advice for home care of illness/condition; conduct follow‑up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as directed by the provider.
- Perform diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures.
- Prepare and assist the provider with patient examinations, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures, and treatment, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure.
- Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Understand testing (lab and procedures) values and their relationship to patient status, taking next steps as directed and appropriate to scope and licensure.
- Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet the department work schedule.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
Experience:
- Previous clinical experience in women's services, labor and delivery preferred.
Other:
- Level 3 Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
