* ** POSITION PURPOSE*
* The Specialty Flight Maternal Clinician provides advanced, specialized care to high‑risk and critically ill pregnant and postpartum patients during helicopter transport. This role applies expert maternal and critical‑care knowledge to rapidly assess, stabilize, and manage patients in the aviation environment under established protocols or direct medical control. When not in flight, the clinician serves as a maternal care resource, supporting clinical readiness, education, and high‑quality standards.

Primary responsibility is air transport, requiring immediate availability for dispatch. Adheres to Mercy One's performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of Mercy One.

** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
* + Knows, understands, incorporates, anddemonstratesthe Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

+ Perform initial and ongoing assessmentsofmaternalpatients with complexhealthcareneeds in the hospital setting.

+ Obtain pertinent maternal and neonatal historiesemphasizingrisk factors and implications for health concerns.

+ Promotes patient-centered care through:

+ Implements interventions and treatments consistent with Mercy One protocols and/or medical on-line direction, documenting response to cares and treatments.

+ Collaborates with the patient, significant others, rescuepersonneland outlying hospital personnel to create a multidisciplinary healthcare team whose goal is to provide care that is continuous andwell coordinated.

+ Quickly,efficiently,and calmlyrespondstoemergencyand critical situations.

+ Communicates with patients at a level consistent with age and understanding.

+ Documents a comprehensive patient record thatisorganized and complete reflecting all aspects of care provided.

+ Activelyparticipatesin evaluating and ensuring safety in and around the aircraft.

Direct any safety concerns to the Program Manager, Base Lead Pilot, and/or Safety Officer. Make recommendations for safe practices.

+ Completes follow-up on transported patients, providing written and verbal progress reports to the referring agency/physician.

+ Professional accountability tomaintainperformance improvement activities, skills, and certification

Maintenance activities and team projects.

+ When not transporting and once all responsibilities associated with the program'sdaily operationshave been completed,assists with patient care in the maternity unitsandrespondsto medical emergencies within

Mercy One Children 's Hospital.

+ Other duties assigned.

** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
* + Associate degree in nursing required 

+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. 

+ Current Iowa RNlicense, (Mercy One Genesis , excluding Aledo andDeWitt,
-current Registered Nurse (RN) license in either Iowa or Illinois isrequiredat the time of hire. A secondary RN license for the other state must be obtained within 12 months of the hiredate.)

+ Minimum of3yearsof experience as aregistered nurse ina Level IIILabor & Delivery Unit

+ American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Provider Certification

+ American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Provider Certification

+ Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Advanced Provider Certification.

+ Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Mandatory Reporter Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

+ AWHONN Critical Care Nursing Course within 1 year of employment as a Maternal Transport Nurse.
