Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring neuro/ortho trauma experience and an active IA or compact RN license.

Details
  • Surgical/Neuro/Ortho PCU at a 25-bed unit
  • Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:5-6
  • Night shift, 4x12s, 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week accommodation available)
  • Weekend rotation every other or every third week depending on census
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float across IMMC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Specialty equipment includes telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and Airvo
Requirements
  • Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
  • NIHSS certification preferred, may be obtained during onboarding
  • Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
  • Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
  • Orthopedic care experience required
  • Trauma care experience highly preferred, Level I trauma experience highly preferred
  • EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience required
  • Drip experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium required
  • De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
Additional Information
  • Provide progressive care nursing support for complex neuro, ortho, and trauma patients
  • Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
  • Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are restricted from travel placement at any UnityPoint market facility
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
