The Quality Control Supervisor manages all quality assurance and quality control activities for asphalt plants, aggregate operations, and paving projects. This role ensures that all materials and production processes comply with Iowa DOT, municipal, and project-specific specifications. The supervisor oversees asphalt mix designs, aggregate testing, and production quality monitoring, while maintaining complete and accurate quality records, certifications, and testing documentation.

• Manage and coordinate all QA/QC activities for asphalt plants, aggregate operations, and paving projects.
• Ensure full compliance with Iowa DOT, municipal, and project-specific specifications across all materials and processes.
• Oversee the development, review, and approval of asphalt mix designs.
• Supervise aggregate testing procedures and monitor production quality in both laboratory and field settings.
• Review test results regularly to identify trends that may impact product quality or performance.
• Investigate quality issues promptly and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain complete and organized quality records, certifications, and testing documentation.
• Apply QA/QC standards to laboratory and field testing methods to ensure consistent and reliable results.
• Interpret construction plans and specifications to align quality control activities with project requirements.
• Utilize Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems to prepare, analyze, and present quality data.
• Provide leadership and guidance to quality control staff, promoting best practices in testing and documentation.
• Collaborate with operations and project teams to address quality-related concerns and support continuous improvement.

• 5+ years of experience in asphalt, aggregate, concrete, or heavy civil construction quality control.
• Strong understanding of asphalt mix designs and their application in production.
• Strong understanding of aggregate testing procedures and standards.
• Strong understanding of Iowa DOT specifications related to asphalt, aggregate, and paving projects.
• Strong understanding of QA/QC standards for construction materials and processes.
• Knowledge of laboratory and field testing methods for asphalt, aggregate, and concrete.
• Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications for quality control purposes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
• Proficiency with quality reporting systems used to track and analyze test results.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a quality control or construction environment (preferred).

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent experience in asphalt quality control will be considered in place of a degree.
• Experience working in laboratory environments performing materials testing.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, engineering, and project teams.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Ability to analyze test data and identify trends affecting product quality or performance.
• Problem-solving skills to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.

This position is based onsite at an office in Ankeny, with time split between the quality control laboratory and occasional visits to project sites and production facilities. The role involves working in both office and lab settings, using testing equipment, computers, and quality reporting systems. Site visits may include exposure to active construction and production environments, requiring appropriate safety practices and adherence to facility protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
