The Assistant Manager role at Hy‑Vee Fast & Fresh is a full‑time, on‑site position located in the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. The Assistant Manager supports daily store operations, including supervising team members, assisting with scheduling, and ensuring that opening and closing procedures are followed. This role helps maintain store standards by overseeing cleanliness, product displays, inventory levels, and compliance with safety and food‑handling guidelines.
The Assistant Manager provides hands‑on customer service, addresses shopper concerns, and helps resolve issues promptly and professionally. This position also assists with basic financial tasks such as monitoring sales, controlling costs, and supporting promotional activities, while fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
- Experience in retail, grocery, convenience store, or hospitality environments, preferably in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to handle inquiries, resolve concerns, and create a welcoming store atmosphere.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including team coordination, delegation, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Basic understanding of inventory control, merchandising, and point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.
- Solid organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry products as needed to support daily store operations.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in business, retail management, or a related field is a plus.
