Role Description The Security Officer role at Vara Guard, LLC is a full-time, on-site position located in Des Moines, IA. Security Officers are responsible for monitoring and securing client properties, performing regular patrols (including mobile vehicle patrols), and ensuring that access control procedures are followed. Daily tasks include observing and reporting suspicious activity, responding to alarms or incidents, documenting events in clear incident reports, and interacting professionally with clients, visitors, and residents.
Security Officers are expected to maintain a visible presence, enforce site rules and safety protocols, and coordinate with law enforcement or emergency services when necessary. The role also involves maintaining communication with supervisors, following post orders, and upholding Vara Guard’s ethical and service standards at all times.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform property security duties, including access control, foot and vehicle patrols, and monitoring of premises.
- Strong observation, situational awareness, and incident reporting skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, visitors, and team members.
- Dependable work ethic, punctuality, and the ability to follow post orders and company policies consistently.
- Capacity to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods and respond to incidents calmly under pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior security, military, or law enforcement experience is beneficial and preferred.
- Ability to pass background screening, meet licensing requirements for security officers in Iowa, and maintain a valid driver’s license for patrol roles.
