Overview
Assist the Security Manager/Director in successful attainment of the department’s goals and objectives. Support and assist the Security Manager/Director in the control of the department and perform various duties to direct and control the operational functions and staff of the department. Aid in assuring a continued atmosphere of safety and security throughout the entire hospital complex, the Security Officer Lead II will direct and coordinate the activities of the on shift personnel.
Promote professionalism among all on shift personnel by providing leadership, direction, and undertaking or participating in other activities to foster and improve the individual performance of department staff thereby enhancing the operation, image, and reputation of the Security Department.

Supervisory Skills- Prepares shift schedules and post assignments.
- Represents department when interacting with other Hospital departments or outside agencies.
- Sees that subordinates effectively perform job duties.
- Takes leadership role and can effectively make decisions when necessary.
- Motivates employees positively and promotes teamwork within department.
- Gathers all pertinent information to make decisions.
- Takes initiative in making decisions and taking action.
- Reviews each incident report for accuracy and appropriate document ion
- Assures MOAB methods are utilized by staff as team members when controlling aggressive patient or visitor behavior.
- Monitors all communications from Emergency Communication Center and assists in the distribution of personnel and equipment based upon available resources
- Must maintain and enhance their knowledge and capabilities during emergency and non-emergency situations, performing multiple duties rapidly, calmly, and effectively to achieve the responses needed.
- Keeps abreast on all call disasters and security policies.
- Contacts appropriate personnel for all codes, disasters, and stats.
- Provides direct service or help make other arrangements.
- Understands and accepts the role of providing support services.
- Uses good documentation skills for report writing and record keeping.
- Performs specific security tasks as directed such as money transports, escorts, hazard inspection, etc.
- Patrols UnityPoint Health-Des Moines buildings and property.
- Maintains order by enforcing all hospital & department policies.
- Responds to and handles all dispatched calls.
- Adheres to all department and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines policies & procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains an excellent appearance and follows department dress code.
- Stays attentive to post duties and job responsibilities.
- Represents department well when interacting with others.
- Displays self as dependable in reporting for work, reporting on time, and does not abuse mealtime or break time.
- Shows self-initiative in performing all tasks and duties.
- Follows up and carries through on all work assignments.
- Performs assigned tasks accurately.
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
