Building Maintenance, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Description
We are seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support multiple childcare facilities in the Iowa region. This role is responsible for keeping buildings, grounds, and equipment safe, compliant, and fully operational for children and staff. The ideal candidate is hands-on, responsive, and comfortable working in active childcare environments.
Key Responsibilities- Perform general building maintenance and repairs
- Complete work orders for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and minor HVAC issues
- Repair doors, locks, fixtures, flooring, drywall, and playground equipment
- Conduct routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed
- Ensure facilities meet state childcare licensing and safety standards
- Maintain maintenance logs and documentation
- Support emergency repairs when required
- 2+ years of general maintenance or facilities experience
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, appliance repair and carpentry
- Must provide own tools and transportation
- Experience with commercial or institutional buildings preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently
- Comfortable working around children and staff during operating hours
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Experience in schools or childcare facilities
- Knowledge of childcare center safety standards
- Playground or safety surfacing experience
- OSHA safety training
- HVAC certification (not required but a plus)
- Must pass required state background checks for childcare facilities
- Must be eligible to work in licensed childcare centers
- Must follow all child safety and supervision policies while onsite
- Must comply with facility health and safety procedures
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders and work from lifts
- Bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces
- Work indoors and outdoors year-round
- Full-time
- Typical hours:
Flexible starting at 6:00am - Occasional after-hours or emergency calls

The starting pay range for this position is $20 to $28 an hour and is applicable for candidates who will be working in the following location[s] Iowa. This range is subject to adjustment for other geographic work locations. In addition to geographic location, Yellow Brick Road considers education, experience, internal equity, market demands, and other qualifying criteria to determine starting wages.
