Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our sewer and underground utility team. This role is responsible for operating excavators (hoe) and loaders to support the installation of sanitary and storm sewer systems on a variety of construction projects. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in trenching, pipe installation, grading, and working around existing utilities.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. The Heavy Equipment Operator works closely with pipe crews and field leadership to maintain production goals while upholding Elder Corporation's high standards for quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment, including excavators (hoe) and loaders, for sewer and underground utility installation
Safely excavate around existing utilities while maintaining proper clearances
Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and GPS systems to ensure accurate placement and grading
Work closely with pipe layers and ground crew to support efficient sewer installation
Perform fine grading and finishing work to meet project tolerances
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance
Maintain proper trench safety, including sloping, shoring, and shielding in compliance with OSHA standards
Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including participation in safety meetings
Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in sewer or underground utility construction required
Experience operating heavy equipment (excavator/hoe and loader) required
GPS/machine control experience preferred
Soil stabilization experience a plus
Valid driver's license with a verifiable driving record
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Dependable with a strong work ethic and reliable attendance
Willingness to work extended hours during peak construction season
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
Comfortable working in trenches and around heavy equipment
