Job DescriptionAs a skilled general laborer, you will perform a variety of tasks focused on installing pre‑engineered metal panels on the exterior of data centers. This role involves the use of impact wrenches, steel erecting tools, and scissor lifts to complete installations effectively and safely.
Responsibilities- Install pre‑engineered metal wall and roof panels according to project specifications, drawings, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Assist with layout, alignment, and fastening of structural components.
- Utilize steel‑erecting tools such as impact wrenches, torque tools, shears, snips, grinders, and panel lifting equipment.
- Work at heights using lifts, ladders, and scaffolding while following all safety protocols.
- Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and installation instructions.
- Coordinate with foremen and crew members to maintain workflow and meet project deadlines.
- Perform material handling, staging, and site cleanup as needed.
- Inspect installed components for quality, accuracy, and compliance with project standards.
- 1+ year of experience in pre‑engineered metal building erection.
- 1+ year of experience with power and hand tools.
- 1+ year of experience working on scissor lifts.
- General labor, iron work, steel erection, construction, fabrication, welding.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Proficiency with steel‑erecting and metal‑fabrication tools.
- Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience installing metal panels, steel structures, or similar construction systems.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
- Ability to work as part of a team on large‑scale commercial or industrial projects.

Work EnvironmentThis role involves working full‑time, onsite from Monday to Saturday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with operations subject to weather conditions, such as high winds. The work is predominantly outdoors, year‑round, involving exposure to variable weather conditions, including cold winters and hot summers. The environment is physically demanding, requiring lifting of heavy materials, climbing ladders, and working job is set in active construction zones with heavy equipment and multiple trades.
The pace is fast and production‑driven, especially on large commercial or data‑center projects. Safety protocols are strictly adhered to, with mandatory use of personal protective equipment. Frequent use of steel‑erecting tools and aerial lifts is required, and comfort with heights and open‑frame structures is essential. Early start times and long days are common, particularly during summer months.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
