Diesel Mechanic

Overview

Apply to become a technician in United Rentals’ Service Department. Positions include Diesel Mechanic – Service Tech IV, Power HVAC Mechanic – Service Tech IV, Tool Service Technician – Service Tech IV, and Load Banks Technician – Level IV.

• Maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and specialized systems on rental equipment and tools.
• Diagnose and repair equipment using schematics, diagnostic programs, and advanced techniques without supervision.
• Travel to customer job sites as required, maintaining a clean and professional service vehicle.
• Assist in training and supervising lower‑level technicians and peers.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and electronic documentation of work performed (work orders, parts, labor).
• Perform preventative and ready inspections, and record inspection completion.
• Coordinate pick‑up and delivery of equipment and parts to and from suppliers and company locations.
• Order required parts accurately and communicate with vendors and suppliers.
• Coach, mentor, and support less experienced technicians in diagnostic and repair skills.
• Comply with all United Rentals safety policies and procedures.

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade school training preferred for Load Banks Technician.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• 5+ years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment, with advanced mechanical aptitude.
• Extensive knowledge of construction equipment and advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
• Must own appropriate tools for the position.
• Advanced diagnostic and repair skills for mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, pneumatic and related systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and field‑repair a broad range of equipment, including air conditioners, chillers, diesel engines, pumps, dehumidifiers and electrical distribution units.
• Ability to lift items up to 45 lbs (20 kg).
• Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal/written communication skills.
• Leadership and mentoring experience preferred for supervisory duties.
• Knowledge of manufacturers’ warranty processes, work order/time‑spent accounting.
