Machine Repair Technician

Trillium Staffing is seeking a Sterilizer Repair Technician for direct hire opportunities in Des Moines & Dubuque, IA.

Salary: $31.25–$36.06 per hour, depending on experience

Hours:

field-based schedule typically between 7:30a – 4:00p

The Sterilizer Repair Technician will provide expert technical support for industrial washing, sterilization, and surgical equipment. This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, customer service, and the ability to work independently in healthcare and laboratory environments. The Sterilizer Repair Technician will be responsible for installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on medical and laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, sterilizers, washers, and related systems.

This position will work directly with hospitals, research institutions, and other healthcare facilities to ensure critical equipment performs safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for candidates with a mechanical or electrical technical background and previous experience servicing sterilization and industrial washing equipment.

Responsibilities
-Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and refurbish industrial washing, sterilization, and surgical equipment and system components.

-Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment from multiple manufacturers, including Getinge/CASTLE, Steris/AMSCO, Consolidated, Tuttnauer, and others.

-Service equipment including autoclaves, rack washers, tunnel washers, bottle fillers, bedding dispensers, blanket warmers, surgical lights, and surgical tables.

-Conduct installations and equipment modifications as needed.

-Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and inventory records.

-Deliver a strong customer experience through clear communication and timely resolution of service issues.

-Plan and manage service schedules to ensure timely response and completion of assignments.

-Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, and internal team members.

-Provide on-site training or demonstrations to customers on proper equipment use and maintenance.

-Identify and communicate opportunities for equipment upgrades, service contracts, or replacement solutions.

-Use company-provided technology, including laptop, CRM, and service reporting software, to complete and submit service call reports within 24 hours.

-Manage personal tools, parts, and inventory to support field operations.

-Follow company safety policies and all customer site protocols.

Trillium Staffing is seeking a qualified Sterilizer Repair Technician who is dependable, technically strong, and comfortable working independently in the field.

Requirements
-High school diploma or GED required.

-Technical school training in mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems preferred.

-1–3 years of directly related field service or technical maintenance experience; or 3–5 years of hands-on experience.

-Minimum of 1 year of experience repairing and maintaining Getinge/CASTLE and/or Steris/AMSCO washing, sterilization, and surgical equipment required.

-Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.

-Strong technical, troubleshooting, and mechanical aptitude.

-Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

-Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.

-Proficiency with computers and Windows-based software applications.

-Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work including standing, bending, and climbing.

-Willingness to travel frequently, approximately 60–90%, to customer sites including hospitals, operating rooms, laboratories, research facilities, and universities up to 3 hours away.

-Flexibility to accommodate customer schedules and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
