Position Location: This role supports the Des Moines, IA area.
We are seeking an Electrical Service Specialist who will perform complex startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium and low voltage electrical power systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, protective relays, motor control centers, VFDs, cables, metering, and backup power supplies.
Responsibilities- Lead basic to complex installation and checkout of electrical and electronic components for systems and service-installed jobs, including maintenance and testing of switch gear, motor controls, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers, and surge protection devices.
- Install wiring and connect to the power source; perform emergency troubleshooting of power distribution products and third‑party equipment; conduct complex service upgrades, reconditioning, retrofits, and maintenance of low‑voltage power distribution systems.
- Provide onsite technical and operational support in design, development, installation, and maintenance of complex equipment; conduct site surveys and develop design plans.
- Train customers and support staff on proper operation and routine inspections; deliver expert advice, training, and technical assistance to support staff and lower‑level employees.
- Plan and estimate labor categories, rates, material costs, and transportation expenses for complex proposals; review task plans, drawings, and installation schematics, providing ongoing guidance throughout project duration.
- Be available to respond to emergency and relief assignments.
- High school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
- 5+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical control circuits; thermography certification obtainable.
- 5+ years of experience with electrical testing—including primary current injection, resistance, dielectric testing, and thermal scans on medium and low‑voltage systems.
- 5+ years of experience performing AC/DC high‐potential testing, transformer turns ratio testing, transformer power factor testing, and other power system test practices and procedures.
- Hands‑on experience interpreting protective coordination studies, testing, and configuring protective relays.
- Proficiency reading bills of material, electrical blueprints, and power system study reports.
- Installation, commissioning, and maintenance of low and medium voltage power distribution systems.
- Knowledge of arc flash and shock hazards for 13.8 kV equipment, including Siemens GIS, AIS, WL, RL, and SB breakers and switch gear.
- Knowledge of ANSI, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and NETA codes and standards.
- Physical ability to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 lbs unassisted.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license and limited violations; eligible for Siemens’ fleet vehicle program.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
- Associate degree.
- AVO, NETA, and NICET certifications.
Pay Range: $66,259 – $113,587 annually. Actual wage may vary based on experience and other factors.
