Diesel Mechanic

Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Des Moines, IA — providing a stable company for your career with weekly pay and excellent benefits.

Compensation and

Schedule:

• Hourly pay: $28.25 per hour
• Certification bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700.
• Quarterly bonus: up to $500 each quarter.
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends OFF.
• Hours:
  
  Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred.
• Basic tools required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work, etc.).
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience (preferred).
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred).
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years.

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance.
• Perform standard component inspections and repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable.
• Identify root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required.
• Replace defective components as instructed.
• Perform facility maintenance duties.
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task.
• Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available.
• Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, which could include but are not limited to Service Island support.
