Role Description This full-time Heating Air Conditioning Service Technician role is a hybrid position based in the Des Moines Metropolitan Area, with some work-from-home tasks such as documentation and remote customer support. Day-to-day responsibilities include diagnosing and troubleshooting HVAC system issues, performing maintenance and repair on residential heating and cooling equipment, and conducting preventive maintenance visits to ensure optimal system performance.

The technician will install and commission HVAC systems, verify compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and maintain accurate service records. The role also involves communicating clearly with customers regarding findings, recommendations, and energy-efficient options, while upholding Heartland’s standards for quality service and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing HVAC performance issues and identifying root causes.
  • Experience with maintenance & repair of residential heating and cooling systems, including routine service and corrective work.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and system tune-ups to extend equipment life and improve efficiency.
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction, with clear communication and professional, courteous in-home service.
  • EPA certification for handling refrigerants and adherence to all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Previous experience as an HVAC service technician or installer in residential settings.
  • NATE certification or willingness to obtain certification is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for travel within the Des Moines Metropolitan Area.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete digital service documentation.
  • Comfort with using mobile devices and service software for scheduling, reporting, and communication.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or HVAC trade school education is a plus.
