the cdl driver / bronto skylift operator (“operator”) transports and operates a bronto truck mounted aerial platform to support at-height inspection, maintenance, and construction projects. The role ensures full dot and fmcsa compliance while driving and champions safe work‑at‑height practices during lift operation. This is a part‑time, hourly position with frequent regional and occasional nationwide travel.
major responsibilities- safely drive bronto truck (up to 80 ft overall length) to and from project sites, complying with all federal, state, and local dot regulations, hours‑of‑service limits, and company routing instructions.
- perform and document pre‑trip, enroute, and post‑trip vehicle inspections, report defects promptly for corrective action.
- maintain accurate driver logs, fuel receipts, and mileage reports in accordance with fmcsa requirements.
- execute bronto skylift operations, such as: set up, level, and stabilize the bronto unit—including outriggers and safety systems—per manufacturer guidelines; operate aerial‑platform controls to position technicians and equipment at heights up to 290 ft for blade inspection, repair, or other services; monitor wind speed, load limits, and outreach sensors; cease operations when conditions exceed safe parameters; conduct routine maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and daily function checks on boom, hydraulic, and safety systems.
- promote a zero‑incident culture by enforcing mistras safety policies, osha fall‑protection standards, and bronto operator best practices.
- participate in random drug/alcohol testing, medical‑certification renewals, and required operator refresher courses.
- serve as on‑site subject‑matter expert for emergency‑descent procedures and aerial‑rescue planning.
- secure tools, rigging, and consumables in truck storage to prevent in‑transit damage or load shift.
- coordinate scheduled preventative maintenance with fleet and maintain service records for vehicle and lift.
- interface professionally with site supervisors and land/facility owners; communicate equipment capabilities, limitations, and job‑site needs.
- assist technicians with staging materials, ground support of work scope, coordinating lift sequences, and adhering to project timelines.
- complete all corporate and bronto‑specific operator training within 90 days of hire (or present proof of prior completion).
- wear required ppe and work in adverse weather conditions at heights exceeding 300 ft.
- valid cdl class b with air‑brake endorsement; clean motor vehicle record.
- current dot medical examiner’s certificate and ability to pass pre‑employment & random drug/alcohol screens.
- minimum 2 years commercial driving plus 1 year operating large aerial platforms or crane‑type equipment.
- acceptable aerial‑lift credential — any one of the following: ipaf mewp operator pal card; osha‑compliant aerial‑lift certification meeting 29 cfr ; ansi a92.24 mobile elevating work platforms operator training; bronto skylift factory operator course (accepted in lieu of above when completed within last 5 years).
- working knowledge of fmcsa hours‑of‑service, load‑securement, and vehicle‑inspection regulations.
- ability to read lift charts and site plans; strong radio/phone communication skills.
frequently climb ladders, ascend/descend boom, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Sit for extended periods while driving; stand on platform for prolonged tasks; work at height in harness.
