Energy Transportation Manager

Open company wide within the Central Valley Ag footprint of Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas

Purpose

As an Energy Transportation Manager at Central Valley Ag Transport, you will lead the scheduling and coordination of trucks and drivers according to customer needs, DOT regulations, and company policy.

This role combines transportation leadership with energy logistics and market awareness. You will help CVAT move energy products safely and efficiently while making practical decisions around inventory levels, supplier options, terminal pricing, freight efficiency, forward-contracted fuel, and energy market movement.

This position is a strong fit for someone who understands transportation logistics, communicates well with drivers and internal teams, and wants a role where dispatch decisions directly impact customer service, fuel delivery efficiency, and margin opportunities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Leads the scheduling and dispatching of drivers and equipment to meet customer needs and operational priorities.
  • Monitors personnel and equipment at locations in order to coordinate services and schedules.
  • Schedules and dispatches drivers and vehicles to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs.
  • Records and maintains files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information.
  • Prepares and reviews operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Analyzes internal processes and recommends or implements procedural and policy changes to improve operations.
  • Understands basic energy market fundamentals and how market movement can impact fuel purchasing and delivery decisions.
  • Determines best available supplier and terminal options based on pricing, product availability, inventory needs, freight efficiency, and customer demand.
  • Dispatches trucks with consideration for both operational efficiency and energy market conditions.
  • Works with the SVP of Energy to determine optimal times to lift forward-contracted fuel.
  • Assigns bills of lading to contracts in supplier portals when pulling forward-contracted fuel.
  • Uses energy inventory monitors to support dispatch and delivery decisions.
  • Determines mode of transportation and selects the appropriate carrier.
  • Sets up loads with common carriers and outside freight companies as needed.
  • Communicates with drivers, internal operations, customers, suppliers, terminals, and outside carriers as needed.
  • Audits vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Advises personnel regarding traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs the work of direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 3 to 14 employees.

This role leads employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving employee issues in conjunction with division leadership.

This position is expected to build and maintain a highly engaged team through clear communication, consistent follow-up, and strong working relationships.

Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of relevant transportation, logistics, dispatch, energy, or operations experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the trucking industry in the CVA trade area.
  • Understanding of energy transportation, fuel supply logistics, supplier pricing, and terminal operations preferred.
  • Ability to use dispatch information, inventory levels, supplier options, and market conditions to support transportation decisions.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and establish effective working relationships with drivers, internal operations, customers, suppliers, terminals, and outside carriers.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and manage resources to accomplish work within defined timelines.
