Highline College is a comprehensive community college that offers certificates, associate’s degrees, and bachelor’s degrees in a range of academic transfer pathways, workforce training, and adult basic education. The Mathematics Department is one of the largest on campus, offering a full spectrum of mathematics courses from pre‑college through advanced topics.
Professional Responsibilities- Teach a wide variety of mathematics courses (pre‑college to college‑level, including statistics) in face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online asynchronous modalities. Design inclusive, culturally responsive curricula and use evidence‑based practices to support diverse student success.
- Provide academic advising, coaching, and mentoring to students outside of class, helping them select courses and connect with campus and community resources.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in shared governance, including departmental and college assessment processes and governance activities.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current in mathematics instruction and in culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti‑racist pedagogies.
- Assist in departmental initiatives, serve on committees, and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at the college.
- A master’s degree (MA or MS) in mathematics (or a regional‑accredited equivalent) earned within the past two years.
- Proficient communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated interest in teaching mathematics during the first two years of college. If the degree is pending, completion by September 2026 and verification by the granting institution are required.
- Undergraduate teaching experience or experience as a graduate teaching assistant.
- Experience working in multicultural or diverse educational settings, particularly with under‑represented groups in higher education or STEM.
- Familiarity with research on mathematics teaching, learning, or assessment.
- Awareness of achievement gaps among diverse student populations and a commitment to developing innovative classroom practices to bridge these gaps.
