Position Overview
Part‑time English faculty teaching primarily in‑person and hybrid courses on the main campus starting the 2025‑2026 academic year. Candidates must be able to teach courses that serve Black and Brown students and develop curriculum in partnership with the English department and Ethnic Learning Communities.
Salary is based on the number of classes taught and ranges from $1,238.38 to $1,326.13 per credit hour. Salary also depends on initial placement and work experience.
Responsibilities- Faculty leadership position with Umoja and Highline Promise Partnership – specifically serving Black and Brown students, preferably in‑person.
- Teach courses in the English Department (teaching assignments may include evening, weekend, online, hybrid, and off‑campus sections).
- Demonstrate student‑centered teaching practices.
- Incorporate an equal‑opportunity approach to teaching and learning.
- Provide on‑campus and/or online instruction designed to promote effective learning.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment using various teaching methods to support and enhance student success.
- Develop, assess, and analyze student achievement of course learning outcomes with the goal of enhancing and improving student learning.
- Develop, monitor, and assess student learning outcomes and fully participate in the college’s program improvement/program review process.
- Remain current in discipline(s) and program(s), including participating in the design, assessment, review, and revision of courses in response to developments in the field.
- Complete other related duties and special projects as assigned.

- Master’s degree (or higher) in English or a closely related field from an institution with regional accreditation or its international equivalent; pending degrees must be verified by a letter from the granting institution. Masters in African American Literature, Composition and/or Rhetoric, or TESOL are acceptable.
- Experience teaching composition to Black and Brown students at a 2‑year college level.
- Experience with non‑discriminatory curriculum development and implementation.
- Training in and/or experience teaching pre‑college writing courses, composition and rhetoric, or technical writing.
- Graduate work or teaching in Cultural and/or Ethnic Studies.
- Successful completion of Umoja University Faculty Institute.
- Experience working with multilingual learners.
