Part Time Faculty - Economics

Position Overview

Part‑time Faculty – Economics, Highline College, 2400 S 240th St, Des Moines, WA.

• Teach introductory courses in Microeconomics (Econ 201) and Macroeconomics (Econ 202). Fall quarter includes up to three sections, including T/TH hybrid courses and asynchronous online sections.
• Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment and use evidence‑based practices to improve the success of all students.
• Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement strategies designed to provide access for all students.
• Engage in self‑reflective practice.
• Use student‑centered instruction, incorporating research‑based practices into teaching and assessment.

• Show commitment to student learning. Plan, organize, and create an interactive, cooperative, and mutually respectful learning environment, incorporating research‑based practices.
• Challenge learners intellectually. Encourage students to ask questions, confront limits, recognize complexities, think critically, and challenge assumptions.
• Practice student‑centered instruction. Design curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment that are relevant to students, valuing what students already know and empowering them to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways.
• Communicate effectively. Convey information and expectations clearly, listen carefully, encourage student communication, and act with respect, enthusiasm, and empathy.
• Demonstrate personal and professional integrity. Be professional, honest, and ethical in course content selection and delivery.
• Assessment. Assess student‑learning outcomes and use assessment data to modify instruction.

• Communicate effectively in oral and written English with students and colleagues of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Economics from an institution with regional accreditation or equivalent; MBA or other master’s with significant economics coursework also considered.
• Experience teaching college‑level economics.

Desired Qualifications

• Community‑college teaching experience.
• Prior successful work with individuals of all cultures and backgrounds.
