King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking a motivated, skilled, and flexible Public Services Assistant (PSA) to support community members in the Des Moines and Valley View libraries, part of the Soundview Region of KCLS.
Soundview Region includes the following community libraries:
Des Moines, Federal Way, Federal Way 320, Valley View, Woodmont.
The PSA assists patrons with technology, understanding library expectations, and provides information about library materials, equipment, programs, and services. They also address patron behavior concerns, de‑escalate disruptions, and apply the Patron Code of Conduct equitably.
Successful candidates are committed to building positive relationships with coworkers and patrons from all backgrounds. They bring strong customer service skills, proactive critical thinking, comfort with diverse populations, and champion intellectual freedom and equity.
Candidates should navigate a dynamic environment, adapt to changing needs, listen with empathy, prioritize effectively, make thoughtful decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations. Reliability and strong work ethic are required.
Experience working with youth, seniors, refugees, and immigrants is highly desirable. Multilingual candidates, especially those who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Somali, French, are encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties- Provides information and readers’ advisory assistance in person, online, and over the phone.
- Facilitates patron use of library collections through reference interviews, literature, electronic searches, and instruction in the use of catalogs, paper and electronic resources.
- Educates, trains, and assists patrons with library technology, equipment and resources.
