Position: Airspace / Aviation Analyst

Airspace / Aviation Analyst

This position is located at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Western Service Center in Des Moines, WA, and is part of the NISC IV program  analyst will support the review and analysis of proposed airspace changes, including National Airspace System (NAS) impact studies, aviation noise assessments, Special Use-Military Use Airspace, recurring facility and airspace review work groups/committees, and community outreach.

Routine Duties
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise (SME) by analyzing impacts to current uses of the NAS from proposed airspace changes.
  • Offer technical and analytical support for complex airspace issues.
  • Analyze flight‑track data and create operational scenarios using airspace reporting and mapping tools.
  • Assist with statistical analysis, including trend and root‑cause analysis, and prepare presentations and reports.
  • Track airspace documents for scheduled publication or public comment.
  • Participate in community involvement for federal projects involving changes to the NAS.
  • Coordinate between the FAA, environmental specialists, and FAA field facilities for community involvement processes.
  • Analyze and document noise inquiries from the public, communities, and Congressional inquiries.
  • Act as ATC SME for on‑call duties, handling VIP movements, relaying key messages, NOTAMs, TFR authorizations, and airspace waivers.
Employment Requirements
  • One must be able to work onsite in Des Moines, WA.
  • Position requires approximately 10% travel.
  • BS degree with 4+ years of relevant experience or MA with 2+ years of relevant experience; additional experience may substitute for degree.
  • Previous designation as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC).
  • Eligibility for a Public Trust Security Clearance: U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder residing in the U.S. for the past 3 of the last 5 consecutive years.
  • Experience preparing written documents, memos, and briefs in a staff environment.
  • Familiarity with FAA organizational structure, policies, and procedures.
Compensation

The program budget salary range for this role is $95,000 to $110,000, depending on relevant experience and assessment.
