Title: Electrical/Electronics Engineer II

Location: Des Moines, WA 98198 (Onsite)

Duration: Contract – approximately 6 months (possible extension or conversion based on future workload and performance)

Travel: Occasional travel or night/weekend work up to 20% anticipated, mainly on the West Coast (may include Hawaii)

Pay Rate: $43/hr – $55/hr (negotiable, DOE)

Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required; permanent residency acceptable

Clearance: Must clear the FAA Public Trust background check

Position Overview

Candidate will implement various FAA National Airspace Systems across FAA facilities. Must possess basic knowledge of electronic engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Workin collaboration with FAA engineers on technical issues, equipment requirements and cost, material lists, design concepts, schedules, site surveys, and technical reports.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct site surveys or review existing reports to assess rack space, cable routes, power needs (UPS/Backup), and thermal loading for new equipment
  • Provide engineering support including design development, SIP/IRD preparation, design updates, technical reviews, and coordination activities
  • Design installation layouts for NEXCOM receivers, transmitters, APC gateway units, equipment racks, and related communication equipment
  • Design copper, coax, and fiber optic cabling installations, including power, grounding, labeling, and bonding
  • Support antenna and communications infrastructure work as identified and authorized
  • Support equipment checkout, installation verification, Joint Acceptance Inspection (JAI), exception clearing, and turnover activities
  • Support de‑installation, removal, and disposition of legacy equipment per FAA direction
  • Update documentation, redline drawings, track assets, and complete closeout activities as required
  • Develop engineering packages based on FAA orders, standards, and Technical Instructions for field installation of radar, automation, communication, and navigational equipment
  • Develop Risk Management, Transition, and Cutover Plans
  • Provide technical oversight for projects from start to finish
  • Collaborate with FAA engineers on technical issues, equipment requirements, costs, material lists, designs, schedules, and reports
  • This position is based in Des Moines, WA with 5 days in office. Occasional travel or night/weekend work up to 20% is anticipated.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics, communications, or infrastructure engineering
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering principles and concepts
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Familiarity with applicable engineering codes and standards
  • Ability to travel nationwide and work on active construction sites in varying conditions
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must pass FAA background checks
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with FAA National Airspace Systems or aviation communication systems
  • Experience with NEXCOM equipment, APC gateway units, or related FAA infrastructure
  • Experience designing and installing copper, coax, and fiber optic cabling
  • Experience with Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and equipment turnover
  • Experience developing Risk Management, Transition, and Cutover Plans
  • Federal, aviation, transportation, or large infrastructure project experience
  • Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar markup software
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently
