SummaryThe Associate Principal for Student Supports (APSS) provides leadership in all areas related to student behavior, school safety, attendance, and Tier 1 systems of support. The APSS supervises security personnel, teaching assistants, and other assigned support staff while leading building efforts to promote positive student behavior, attendance, and well‑being.

Reports to and Evaluated by- Principal
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with District 207’s administrative evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities.
Qualifications- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
- Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation Growth Through Learning training modules (PERA‑qualified).
- Demonstrated experience in student discipline, crisis response, and restorative practices (preferred).
- Strong collaboration, communication, and decision‑making skills.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions with students, staff, and families.
- Promote a restorative, equitable, and student‑centered approach to discipline and support.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with Board policy, state law, and due process standards.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, particularly in managing complex and time‑sensitive situations.
- Engage in continuous professional learning in areas such as trauma‑informed practices, restorative justice, school safety, and crisis management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
- Lead and oversee all aspects of school safety and security, including supervision of personnel, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and serve as the primary liaison with the School Resource Officer (SRO) and local police departments.
- Chair or co‑chair the Building Safety Committee, ensuring continuous improvement of safety practices, emergency drills, and threat response systems.
- Implement the Threat Assessment Process, ensuring coordination among administrators, student services staff, and law enforcement.
- Oversee building supervision coverage, security assignments, and building access systems.
- Lead Tier 1 school‑wide behavior systems as part of the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Oversee student behavior management, including restorative practices, behavior responses, interventions, and exclusionary processes, if necessary, in accordance with Board policy and state law.
- Serve as lead investigator for student behavioral incidents, ensuring due process, accurate documentation, and timely parent/guardian communication.
- Implement and monitor behavioral intervention and re‑entry plans following disciplinary action or reassignment.
- Partner with counselors, social workers, and teachers to develop and implement restorative interventions that support positive student re‑engagement.
- Lead efforts to prevent, investigate, and respond to bullying and harassment in accordance with district policy and state law.
- Lead all building‑level attendance initiatives, including attendance expectations, interventions, individualized attendance support plans, and truancy prevention efforts.
