Summary

The Multilingual Lead Teacher provides instructional leadership and operational support within the Multilingual (ML) program to ensure effective teaching practices, equitable access to curriculum, and strong student outcomes for emergent bilingual students. This position bridges classroom teaching and program-level coordination by supporting teachers, collaborating on language development strategies, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements, and assisting with program design and implementation.

The Multilingual Lead Teacher is a certified educator who maintains a partial teaching load while fulfilling key collaborative, instructional, and managerial responsibilities under the direction of the Principal and/or designee.

Performance Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal and/or designee in accordance with District 207’s certified staff evaluation procedures.

Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an ESL or Bilingual Education endorsement required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in language development, sheltered instruction, and high‑impact instructional practices for emergent bilingual students.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), Ellevation (or comparable language services systems), and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of state and federal requirements related to English learners (Part 228, ACCESS, etc.) preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
    • Supports and facilitates PLC processes for ML/ELL staff to promote collaboration, data‑driven decision‑making, and implementation of language development strategies.
  • High‑Impact Multilingual Instruction
    • Supports evidence‑based instructional strategies (e.g., scaffolding, sheltered instruction, academic language development) through modeling, coaching, and collaborative planning.
  • Meetings and Collaboration
    • Assists with organizing and facilitating department meetings to ensure alignment of multilingual programming, instructional coherence, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Master Scheduling and Program Placement
    • Collaborates with the Principal and/or designee to support scheduling of ML programming, including course pathways, placement decisions, and equitable access to services.
  • Assessment and Compliance
    • Supports administration and scheduling of ACCESS testing, progress monitoring, and compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Articulation with Partner Districts
    • Works with the Principal and/or designee including but not limited to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction to support articulation with feeder districts, particularly regarding placement, programming, and student transitions.
  • Teaching and Supervision
    • Teaches a minimum of one (1) class and a maximum of four (4) classes, or the equivalent, along with one supervisory assignment as determined by program needs.
  • Budget and Resource Management
    • Assists in organizing instructional materials and supporting resource planning for multilingual programs, including bilingual/ESL materials and language development resources.
  • Student Information System (SIS)
    • Provides support for data collection, reporting, and accuracy within SIS related to ML student identification, scheduling, and programming.
  • Substitute Teacher Support
    • Coordinates with substitute teachers within the department to ensure continuity of instruction and access to appropriate materials for ML students.
  • Managerial Support
    • Assists the Principal and/or designee with additional operational, managerial, and programmatic responsibilities that ensure the effective functioning of the Multilingual program.
