Job Summary

This role is responsible for product development from concept through production, including new product development, sustaining engineering support, and resolution of field problems. The individual will perform mechanical product design and/or redesign, create part assemblies, and detailed part drawings. You will participate in prototyping, assembly of samples, and product test and evaluation programs. The role collaborates with all cross‑functional members of the design team.

You will present and communicate project status updates to management, participate in daily management meetings with the cross‑functional team, and work closely with other engineers. LEAN Process methodology is applied throughout. This work requires onsite presence at the Des Plaines, IL facility at least 50% of the time.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Involved in product design activities such as part geometry development, assembly design, and drawing generation for new products, enhancements, and cost‑reduction projects.
  • Develop and distribute engineering data including Engineering Change Notices, bills of material, and parts tracking.
  • Design parts and coordinate with tooling vendors for manufacturing methods such as progressive die sheet metal, fabricated sheet metal, aluminum and zinc die casting, metal and plastic extrusion, injection molding, and spinning.
  • Work with internal manufacturing facilities and external vendors to resolve part or assembly issues, bill‑of‑materials corrections, and deviation requests.
  • Participate in pilot/preproduction runs, first‑article inspections, tool run‑offs, and plan for production release.
  • Attend team meetings using the stage gate product development system and review certification and validation test plans.
  • Submit test requests and collaborate with testing groups; submit prototyping requests to internal and external suppliers.
  • Review functional specifications, project charters, and competitor samples.
Skills And Minimum Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 2 to 5 years of applicable experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and Microsoft Office programs;
    Solid Works experience preferred.
  • Understanding of various manufacturing methods and finishing techniques.
  • Knowledge of UL/CSA, DLC, and/or Energy‑Star standards and test processes.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Adherence to industry safety standards.
Preferred Education And Experience (Industry Experience)
  • Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in a parts manufacturing, lighting manufacturing, electrical device manufacturing, or consumer product company.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Travel Requirements
  • 1–20% domestic and international travel as needed.
Compensation & Benefits

The range for this position is $73,400.00 to $, with placement depending on experience and location. Acuity offers health care, dental coverage, vision plans, 401(k) benefits, and commissions/incentives depending on the role.
